Our Heritage

Today, Sussex County is the fastest growing region of Delaware, largely attributed to its increasing popularity as a point of destination. Centrally located and less than a two-hour drive from major markets such as Philadelphia, Baltimore, Wilmington and the nation’s capital, Sussex County is diverse in both its riches and its contrasting lifestyles. Its coastline is home to numerous seaside resorts, small towns, historic seaside villages and art galleries, making tourism the second largest industry in the region. In sharp contrast, among its western sections, agriculture continues to serve as the backbone of the region’s economy, with more acres of arable land under cultivation than anywhere else in the state.
